Learning objectives
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
- Understand that skin fragility, arteriolosclerosis associated with age and oedema from different causes, especially decompensated heart failure or CVI, are predisposing factors for acute ulcers after trauma.
- Understand the concept of dermatoporosis and its stages.
- Consider early debridement as key in the treatment of deep dissecting haematoma.
- Learn diagnosis clues for arteriolosclerotic ulcers
- Remember that edema control, i.e. compression therapy, is fundamental in avoiding the chronification of any acute leg wound.
- Understand the importance of starting early compression therapy in any acute leg ulcer if distal pulses are palpables.
