EWMA is delighted to announce that Professor José Luis Lázaro-Martínez has been named the 2025 recipient of the Edward James Olmos Award for Limb Preservation. Presented annually by the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS) at DFCon. This distinguished award recognises leaders whose dedication, scientific contributions, and advocacy have transformed diabetic foot care and advanced global efforts in amputation prevention.
A Leading Expert in Diabetic Foot Management
Professor José Luis Lázaro-Martínez is a full-time Professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid where he is Director of the Diabetic Foot Unit. He is internationally recognised as one of the foremost experts in diabetic foot management as well as the Chair of the Diabetic Foot Committee of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA).
In his role at EWMA, Professor Lázaro-Martínez plays a central role in shaping multidisciplinary models of care that improve outcomes and reduce amputations.
Strong collaboration with EWMA
Together with EWMA, he is advancing a collaborative, Europe-wide approach to diabetic foot care. This approach inspires healthcare systems to strengthen their services and adopt more effective practices. His extensive research contributions further support this mission, delivering innovative insights that continue to guide clinicians and elevate standards of care worldwide.
