The 9th Panhellenic Congress on Wound and Ulcer Healing will take place on 23–24 October 2026 at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, Greece. It is organised by the Hellenic Society of Wound Healing and Chronic Ulcers, which has successfully organised eight previous Panhellenic Congresses and has a long-standing commitment to promoting education, scientific collaboration and multidisciplinary care in the field of wound healing.
The Society brings together physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals from a wide range of specialties involved in the prevention and management of acute and chronic wounds. Its current Board of Directors consists of Ourania Castana, President and Plastic Surgeon; Eleftherios Vogiantzoglou, Vice President and Podiatrist; Maria Charcharidou, General Secretary and Nurse; Varvara Zacharioudaki, Treasurer and Nurse; and Board Members Evangelos Dimakakos, Internist–Angiologist; Georgios Mytis, Surgeon; and Fotini Lakopoulou, Nurse. The 2026 Congress aims to present the latest scientific and clinical developments in wound management and to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience between different healthcare disciplines. Its comprehensive scientific programme will include targeted clinical workshops, round-table discussions, scientific lectures, oral communications and e-poster presentations, covering a wide range of topics such as chronic and acute wounds, diabetic foot, podiatry, venous and arterial ulcers, pressure injuries, burns, scars, innovative therapies and wound care materials, telemedicine, artificial intelligence in wound healing, multidisciplinary care and research protocols.
The programme will also feature presentations by distinguished invited international speakers, whose lectures will be delivered in English, as well as satellite symposia addressing selected contemporary topics and developments in wound care.
Supporting education and the development of younger healthcare professionals is an important part of the Society’s mission. During the Congress, the Hellenic Society of Wound Healing and Chronic Ulcers will award four educational scholarships, providing two physicians and two nurses with the opportunity to undertake further training at specialised centres abroad. In addition, the I. Ioannovits Award, established in memory of the founder of the Society, will be presented to the best scientific paper.
Scientific contributions are also an important component of the meeting. Abstracts of the Congress’s oral communications and e-posters will be published in the international scientific journal Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters, providing participants with an additional opportunity to disseminate their scientific work to the wider wound care community.
Throughout the Congress, a dedicated exhibition area will host participating companies and exhibitors, giving delegates the opportunity to learn about products, technologies, materials and innovative solutions related to wound and ulcer management.
Beyond the scientific programme, the unique setting of the Eugenides Foundation will offer delegates an additional educational and cultural experience. As part of their Congress registration, participants will have the opportunity to attend a special screening at the New Digital Planetarium, combining two days of scientific exchange with one of Athens’ most distinctive science communication experiences.
The 9th Panhellenic Congress on Wound and Ulcer Healing therefore aims to provide a dynamic multidisciplinary platform for education, research, professional exchange and collaboration, contributing to the continuous improvement of wound care practice and patient outcomes in Greece and beyond.
