EWMA sustainable development goals

In line with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), EWMA will promote sustainability in several areas of wound care to address today’s major challenges. Sustainability in wound care encompasses several approaches and aspects.

EWMA aims to:

1. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3)
Enhance person-centered care and healthy lifestyle.

2. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDG 4)
Develop and promote quality education to ensure the best treatment for patients and shorter recovery times.
Promote virtual educational webinars and materials to reach a broader audience that EWMA would not otherwise reach.

3. Reduce inequality within and among countries (SDG 10)
Advocate equality in wound care, also amongst the poor and disabled people or people with health conditions or impairments .
Promote awareness of all types of wounds that affect all ethnicities.

4. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG 12)
Promote rapid and accurate wound diagnosis to avoid unnecessary interventions and the use of wound care materials.
Promote the development of sustainable and reusable technologies (e.g., devices, dressings, compression materials, offloading devices)

5. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG 13)
Promote sustainable industrialization and innovation.
Promote conferences with sustainable policies (e.g., congress materials, easy accessibility by public transportation, etc.)
