Living with chronic wounds in Finland

In these videos we follow a patient with Crohn's disease and Pyoderma gangrenosum and watch her story being told from three different angles: the patient's, the health care professional's and the institution's.

The videos were created by filmmaker Aurora Piaggesi. Copyright © EWMA 2018.

Description

The 36 year old woman had a stoma as a consequence of Crohn's disease. In 2017 she developed very painful peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum –ulcers affecting her quality of life. The ulcers were treated first with systemic prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil, then with biologic agents such as ustekinumab and vedolizumab. Finally, the ulcers healed 16 months later during adalimumab treatment and the patient has been in remission since then. More information about pyoderma gangrenosum is available in the EWMA document Atypical Wounds.

Helsinki Wound Healing Centre is a collaborating organization which aims to a strong relationship between Helsinki University Central Hospital and Primary care. The main team consists of plastic surgeon Heli Lagus, vascular surgeon Milla Kallio, dermatologists Kirsi Isoherranen and Heini Halme, tissue viability nurse Opri Kuokkanen and nurse Tuula Laiho.” The video is in Finnish with English subtitles.

Finnish Description

Potilas on 36-vuotias nainen jolla on Crohnin taudin johdosta avanne.
