On 7 November 2019, the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) & the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP), will organise a roundtable debate on patient safety and wound care in Europe: “10 years after the Council recommendation on patient safety. The perspective of chronic wound and pressure ulcer prevention”. The meeting will take place on November 7th (12:30 - 14:00) at the European Parliament, Brussels (Members Salon), and it will be kindly hosted by MEP Andreas Glück (Renew Europe Group, Germany).
Objectives of the event
The purpose of our workshop is to offer a dynamic discussion about the current situation of patient safety in Europe and suggest how national and European policymakers may shape effective strategies for safer care, specifically in wound care and pressure ulcer prevention (10 percent of our hospitalized patients suffer from pressure ulcers, increasing both their suffering and health expenditures).
The roundtable will explore the following questions:
- What is the state of play of patient safety across Europe?
- What are the key features needed to build patient-centred healthcare systems across the EU?
- To what extent can pressure ulcer prevention and care of chronic wounds showcase the value of patient safety measures?
