Sue is currently the Associate Director of Nursing in Gwent, a large integrated health Trust, with responsibilities for over 6,00 nursing and AHP staff and research. Responsibilities of this post include engendering a research culture within the organisation, encouraging participation in research activities, and co-ordinating and overseeing research in the Trust.

Previous employments and professional experience
Sue Bale has a career in wound healing research that spans 21 years. During this time she has produced a large body of work comprising 110 publications in peer-reviewed journals; 14 books and chapters; 62 international conference papers; a selection of 28 posters presented at international conferences, and 12 videos and CDs.
She was part of a small multi-professional team that established the first and premier clinical wound healing institute in the world – the Wound Healing Research Unit. Sue established and built a wound healing nursing service in Cardiff, and was also responsible for establishing, guiding and developing a team of nurses into research, clinical and managerial roles.
Sue was awarded a Fellowship to the Royal College of Nursing for her outstanding contribution to nursing research, development and practice of wound care in the UK and internationally.
Sue is a founder member of the Wound Care Society (1985); the European Wound Management Association; (1991); the Journal of Wound Care (1992); the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (1996).
