New special issue of the Journal of Wound Management: Focus on pressure ulcers

We are pleased to announce the publication of the July 2025 issue of the Journal of Wound Management, a special edition dedicated to pressure ulcers.

Pressure ulcers remain a significant and complex challenge across healthcare systems, affecting patients, families, and providers alike. This special issue brings together a wide range of articles addressing the incidence, prevention, treatment innovations, policy dimensions, and multidisciplinary approaches to managing pressure ulcers.

In their editorial, Dr. Beáta Grešš Halász and Prof. Dr. Andrea Pokorná emphasise the critical need for early detection, systematic prevention, and evidence-based care. They write:

“Pressure ulcers are mostly preventable and not inevitable. They are a patient safety issue and a measure of healthcare quality… These wounds affect patients in a variety of clinical settings and are not just skin-deep; they indicate systemic failure and often reflect lapses in patient care.”

The editorial highlights the encouraging progress in identifying risk factors, using advanced technologies, and promoting self-care to improve patient outcomes. It also stresses the importance of continued knowledge updates and equitable access to preventive strategies, especially in resource-limited settings.

We invite all clinicians, researchers, educators, and healthcare leaders to explore this issue and join the ongoing effort to reduce the burden of pressure ulcers worldwide.

This issue also includes an extended supplement featuring all accepted abstracts from the EWMA-GNEAUPP 2025 conference.
