EWMA-EPUAP.jpg

EPUAP and EWMA have separately for several years been advocating for the recognition of PUs as a major healthcare and patient safety issue.

In 2016 the “Joint EPUAP-EWMA Pressure Ulcer (PU) Prevention & Patient Safety Advocacy Project” was initiated with the overall objective of contributing to set PU prevention at the patient safety agenda of the European Union and European Parliament. This objective has been pursued through a range of different activities including amongst others A) Meetings with Members of the European Parliament, B) Collaboration with the OECD Health Care Quality Outcome project, C) Elaboration of a systematic review of European PU prevalence and D) Publication and dissemination through social media of a number of short awareness raising articles. Coordinated joint sessions have taken place at the EPUAP and EWMA conferences since 2017.

This year the joint session will focus on the following topics:

  • Update on the International Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers/Injuries Guidelines
  • Lobbying at the EU level for greater awareness of pressure ulcers as a public health issue
  • Real Patient Experience is More than Textbook – Video from the Czech Republic
  • Case Story Developed by the EPUAP-EWMA Project
