Focus on Stoma & Continence Care 2026

EWMA-DEWU 2026

Stoma and incontinence stream

EWMA introduces dedicated programme on stoma & continence care at EWMA-DEWU 2026

We are excited to announce a new Focus on Stoma & Continence Care within the scientific programme of EWMA-DEWU 2026.

Building on EWMA’s commitment to advancing holistic care for patients, EWMA is establishing a dedicated committee to support and shape this focus area.

This expert group will bring together leading voices in stoma and continence care to develop content, identify best clinical practices, and highlight the latest evidence for healthcare professionals working across care settings.

From 2026 onward, stoma and continence care topics will be featured in dedicated sessions at EWMA conferences, creating new opportunities for professionals to deepen their knowledge and engage with peers in this evolving field.

What this means for you
 – Access through EWMA-DEWU 2026 registration:
Healthcare professionals who register for EWMA-DEWU 2026 will automatically have full access to the sessions within the Focus on Stoma & Continence Care programme.
 – Multidisciplinary learning: Sessions will explore both clinical and practical aspects of stoma and continence management
 – Expert insight: The new committee will guide session development and help ensure that the programme reflects real-world practice and cutting-edge research.

Dear members, conference participants, and partner organisations associated with the European Council of Enterostomal Therapists (ECET),

It is with sincere regret that we announce the decision to dissolve the European Council of Enterostomal Therapists.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported ECET throughout the years, including our dedicated members, collaborators, and conference attendees. We are proud of ECET’s contribution to advancing knowledge in enterostomal therapy, providing a valued platform for scientific exchange, professional networking, and the dissemination of research and clinical developments.

However, due to diminishing industry support and challenges in recruiting new members and board representatives, the ECET Board has been left with no viable alternative but to take this step.

Looking ahead, we believe that stoma and fistula care will increasingly be integrated within the broader field of wound management. From 2026, topics related to stoma and incontinence care will be included in dedicated sessions at the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) conferences. The former ECET Board members remain committed to contributing to the development of this field and look forward to sharing their expertise within this new framework.

For any enquiries, please contact: ewma@ewma.org.

All abstracts regarding stoma can be submitted for EWMA 2026 under the category “stoma”.

With kind regards,

ECET Board
