EWMA 2022: Choosing a dressing

Choosing the ideal dressing for a patients wound is an important step to promote wound healing, however it can also be challenging for the Clinician involved. Clinician choice should correspond to the main assessed needs of the wound, which can change during the healing process. This workshop will assist participants to focus on rapid identification of the main factors likely to affect healing - within the wound margins, on the wound bed and on the surrounding skin - and promote the choice of the most suitable generic interactive dressing and help participants plan the date of the next 'anticipated' dressing change. The facilitators will also highlight other factors that have been shown to influence dressing choice, such as the cost-effectiveness and efficacy of a dressing (and when combined with compression therapy, offloading etc.).
