The Lindsay Leg Club Foundation

The Leg Club model exists primarily in the UK. The first Leg Club was established in 1995 and there are now 14 Leg Clubs in the UK. Additional are currently being established or planned.

The Leg Club Model was conceived as a unique partnership between the district nursing team and the local community, in which patients are empowered, through a sense of ownership, to become stakeholders in their own treatment. Leg Clubs aim to provide leg ulcer management in a social environment, where patients (members) are treated collectively and the emphasis is on social interaction, participation, empathy and peer support where positive health beliefs are promoted.

The Lidsay Leg Club Foundation offers the following patient leaflets for download at their website:

  • A simple guide to circulation and what can go wrong with it
  • A simple guide to foot care
  • A simple guide to foot-related problems and general care
  • A simple guide to Lymphoedema
  • A simple guide to skin care
