The EWMA Teach the Teacher Project

The aim of the EWMA coordinated Teach the Teacher programme is to improve the skills of nursing teachers dedicated to the teaching of wound healing and tissue repair in European countries.

It is based on the concern that undergraduate nursing education across most European countries isn’t sufficiently focused on wound management to develop the necessary level of competence of the nursing students.

TTWound aims at developing a new type of education, advancing the knowledge, skills and competencies of nurse teachers in their provision of wound management education to undergraduate nurses.

Project objectives include:

  1. Develop, implement, and monitor a quality, accessible, ICT-supported, blended learning education programme for nurse educators;
  2. Enhance the nurse educator’s cognitive knowledge, pedagogical skills and competence in the planning, delivery and evaluation of education in wound management;
  3. Connect nurse educators and their institutions across Europe to a professional face-to-face and ICT-based network providing access to exchange of experiences;
  4. Develop the nurse educator’s awareness of the importance of liaison between education, research and development and the clinical practice of wound management;
  5. Disseminate and exploit the project results by making recommendations and contributing to building evidence-based knowledge regarding continued lifelong learning at national and European levels.

In February 2010, the working group handed in the EWMA Teach the Teacher project application to the European Commission with the working title "TTWound."

A response from the European Commission is expected by early July 2010. Additional funds for the implementation will be sought from industry partners.

The project preparation has been supported by an unrestricted educational grant from 3M.
