Current position

Head of the Department of Dermatology and Venerology at the Federal University Teaching Hospital Feldkirch, Austria. Academic education & TrainingMedical degree from the University of Innsbruck Medical School, AustriaBoard-certified in Dermatology in 1995 at the Division of Immunology, Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Department of Dermatology, University of Vienna School of Medicine.

Previous employments and professional experience

In 2002, Professor Strohal was appointed Head of the new Department of Dermatology and Venerology at the Federal University Teaching Hospital Feldkirch, Austria. In 2006, he founded the new Vorarlberg Institute for Dermatologic Investigation and Treatment, a Department of the Vorarlberg Institute for Vascular Investigation and Treatment (VIVIT), Feldkirch, Austria.

In addition to serving as an external expert for various research and funding programmes associated with the European Commission (EC), Professor Strohal is Board Member of the Austrian Society of Dermatology and Venerology, delegate of the Austrian Chamber of Physicians at the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) in Brussels, Board Member of the European Association of Wound Healing (EWMA), past-president (current vice-president) of the Austrian Wound Association (AWA) and past-Chairman of the Austrian Society of Dermatology Task Force “Biologics in Dermatology”.

Professor Strohal and his Department are involved in several multinational clinical trials (biologics and psoriasis, adjuvant melanoma therapy, treatment of chronic wounds) as well as in charge of a number of investigator-originated studies and a European EC-funded concerted action. Publishing in the field of clinical dermatology, immuno-dermatology, infection control, and dermato-oncology, he has received nine national and international scientific awards.
